Verdict: At just 200 mm in length and weighing around 80 grams, the XLC PU-M04 Mini Pump is a compact, light and affordable tool designed for road riders and bikepackers who need a reliable way to pump up your tyres in an emergency.

Small enough to fit in a frame bag without adding much bulk, it’s capable of delivering up to 8 bar (around 120 PSI) of pressure, which is more than enough for most road, gravel and mountain bike tyres.

One of the key features of the PU-M04 is its compatibility with both Presta and Schrader valves. It comes with a reversible head and an additional adapter, allowing it to work with different bike setups without hassle. The pump also includes a flexible, extendable hose that makes connecting to the valve much easier, especially when tyres are under higher pressure. A dust cap is included to keep the hose clean and protected from dirt.

The pump is constructed from durable plastic, striking a good balance between resilience and low weight. While mini pumps like this do require more effort and time to inflate a tyre compared to a full-sized floor pump, they are not designed for workshop use. Instead, the PU-M04 is ideal for emergency situations on the road, where portability and reliability matter more than speed.

Overall, the XLC PU-M04 is a well-thought-out piece of kit for riders who value efficiency and practicality. It won’t replace a floor pump for regular maintenance, but it’s a dependable companion for roadside repairs or quick top-ups mid-ride. The thoughtful inclusion of valve compatibility, an extendable hose, and a dust cap means it punches above its weight in terms of functionality, making it a worthy addition to any cycling setup.
